Armenia has more than ten thousand caves located in every region of the country. Many of Armenian caves – Old Khndzoresk, Old Goris, Areni Cave - created by a human being, can be compared with the most wonderful ones throughout the world. The Armenian caves will be of a great interest to nature lovers and adventure seekers.

  • Khndzoresk

    Khndzoresk is widely known for its canyon with exotic rock formations and ancient cave settlement. These manmade caves are used as warehouses and have been inhabited till the 1950s. Today many of these caves are used as barns for farm animals. Nearby are also old churches, village, tombs, and bridge which is 160 meters long and connects the old and new villages.


  • Areni Cave

    Areni Cave is located in Areni Village along Arpa River. Here the earliest known shoe in the world was found (5500 years old). Moreover, recently Irish and Armenian archeologists discovered the oldest winery which is 6,100-year-old. Archaeologists have unearthed a wine press for stomping grapes, fermentation and storage vessels, drinking cups, and withered grape vines, skins, and seeds.
